Child and Youth Counselling

Meeting them in their world, instead of expecting them to conform to ours before they’re ready

Child Counselling & Play Therapy

Is your child struggling? Do you as a parent feel exhausted by the end of the day after dealing with challenging behaviours? Have you tried everything that you can think of to support your children, but nothing seems to be working anymore?

If you’re feeling lost, I can help. Children have a lot to navigate in their lives, and sometimes they need a little extra support. Big emotions can take over, and feel overwhelming in the moment. This may include:

  • Anxiety or Depression

  • Parental Separation/Divorce

  • Difficulty Completing Tasks or School Refusal

  • Social Conflicts or Difficulty Maintaining Friendships

  • ADHD or Attention and Motivation Concerns

Child counselling and play therapy is a way for us to meet your child in their world, instead of us expecting them to come into ours, perhaps before they’re developmentally ready. Sessions incorporate play, art, storytelling and games in order for your child to depict how their world feels. Once I have an idea of how they experience their world, we can start the process of healing together. Sessions with young children involve close collaboration with caregivers so that we’re all on the same page and you are able to start building your child’s skills and language at home too.

In partnership, we will:

  • Teach your child to learn to name their feelings

  • Identify feelings and emotions, including what they feel like inside of our bodies

  • Learn new coping strategies

  • Further develop social skills

  • Encourage your child to make different choices at home and school by providing alternatives

Working with Teenagers

Being a teen is hard. There’s so much to juggle and balance on top of daily pressures like homework and chores. If you or your teen is struggling, I’m here to help with:

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Self-Harm and Suicidal Thoughts

  • Peer Conflicts and Boundary Setting

  • Life Transitions and Future Planning

When working with youth, I also meet them in their world. It’s no fun having to explain what Snapchat is, describe the newest Tik Tok trend, or why Facebook is only for “old” people. Sessions with teens often incorporate age-appropriate play, games, art, and storytelling. Talking about movies and music is also something that will play into our work together as we build a relationship of connection and trust.

My goal is to create a safe space where they can speak about anything that is on their mind. We will also find ways to disrupt unhelpful thinking patterns and increase problem solving so they can feel more joyful and confident in their lives.
